And the last participant also questioned, “She doesn’t appreciate me,” regarding a situation where she gave her daughter a present and she didn’t say anything. September 3, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Sallie and I facilitated this session. There were three participants on the call. There was time to work through three concepts during the call. Sallie shared how her experience of The Work has changed over the years. How, at one point, she was using it to make herself feel special, and how she is coming out of that now. She then facilitated us to fill in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet, and she and I alternated facilitating volunteers to do The Work. The first participant questioned the concept, “Technology shouldn’t make me angry,” regarding learning how to use the Inquiry Circle forum as a new Steady Pace Inquiry participant. The next participant then questioned the thought, “Government measures make me unemployable,” regarding not wanting to take the flu vaccine as a health care provider. The first participant questioned the concept, “I am upset with Tina because she hid my passport from me and refused to look,” a situation which turned out to be the end of a long term friendship. The next participant then questioned the thought, “I need him to refund at least half of what I paid him,” where her computer repairman kept her computer for a month and ended up not being able to fix it, for which she paid $600. The next participant questioned the thought, “I need my memory to make me feel at ease,” in a situation where she was asked for feedback and she didn’t take notes. The first participant questioned the concept, “I’ll never get over this,” regarding her ex-husband. The situation was talking to her son on the phone on July 4th when she found out her ex-husband was spending the holiday with her son. The same participant then questioned the thought, “Ted has written me off,” from Line 1 of her worksheet. The next participant questioned the thought, “I want her to step away,” about her boss who was micromanaging her and preventing her from doing her job. June 20, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Tracey Buffum and I facilitated this session. There were three participants on the call, and there was time to work through three concepts, one from each participant. Tracey gave an eloquent introduction to The Work and shared how it has helped her. She then facilitated us to fill in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet, and she and I alternated facilitating volunteers to question what they wrote on their worksheets. The first participant questioned a concept from Line 3 of her worksheet, “I should like doing what I’m supposed to do.” In this case, what she was supposed to do was her homework, which she was resisting. The next participant questioned the thought, “I don’t want this short employment to influence prospective employers.” She has had several short employment periods on her resume, and was considering another. June 12, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Thias Stecher and I facilitated this session. There were two participants on the call, and there was time to work through one and a half concepts for one participant (she had to leave) and the entire Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet for the other participant. Thias gave an introduction of The Work and shared how it has helped him. He then facilitated us to fill in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet, and he and I alternated facilitating. The first participant’s worksheet was about her husband when he asked her to turn down the TV. She had been home alone most of the day, and she had been enjoying not being told what to do. She worked the concept, “I am angry with Sandy because he isn’t pleased with me,” from Line 1 of her Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. And then she started working, I want him to stop judging me,” from Line 2 before she was interrupted. The second participant is a therapist who was dealing with a client who twisted her words, thereby sabotaging her ability to help her. She worked the following concepts from her worksheet, “I am angry with my client because she ruins anything good. I want her to welcome my input. June 4, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Heinz Meisnitzer and I facilitated this session. There was one participant on the call, and there was time to work through her entire Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. Heinz gave an introduction of The Work and shared how it has turned his life around. He then facilitated us to fill in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet, and he and I alternated facilitating the sole participant. The participant’s worksheet was about her husband’s ex-wife. She has been married to her husband for 20 years, but still feels stressed about her husband’s ex. She worked the following concepts from her worksheet, “I am angry at Sue because she won’t let go of blaming Michael and I. I want Sue to be open to having a relationship with everyone. She should stop being a victim. I need to hear that she has stopped blaming Michael. She is stubborn, spiteful, angry, bullying and unfair. May 27, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording I facilitated this session. There were five participants on the call, and there was time to work five concepts in total. I gave an overview of what The Work is, and shared some of the ways it has helped me. I then facilitated us to fill-in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. One participant worked the concept, “I don’t want my mother-in-law to care if Michael spends money on me or not,” from line 2 from her Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. This was about a situation visiting her in-laws at Christmas after she and her husband got back from shopping and her mother-in-law was curious. The next participant worked the concept “She didn’t keep her commitment to show up,” from Line 1 of her worksheet regarding the guest-facilitator who was sick and could not be on the call, which affected her ITW credits. The next participant questioned the thought, “I want Holly to be more help around the house,” regarding her daughter who didn’t finish cleaning up the dishes after a meal. The next participant worked the concept, “I need Markie (cat) to not create extra work for me” from Line 4 of her worksheet regarding a situation where her cat knocked off a bunch of stuff from a shelf. May 19, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Caitlin Frost and I facilitated this session. There were five participants on the call, and there was time to work four concepts in total. Caitlin gave an introduction of The Work and shared her experience how just listening to a recording of The Work shifted her relationship with a coworker. She also shared how The Work has helped her over the past 15 years. She then facilitated us to fill in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet, and she and I alternated facilitating volunteers. One participant worked the concept, “I want him to leave me alone,” from line 2 of her Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet, regarding a situation driving home where her husband asked her to text some friends about plans and didn’t want to think about stuff like that then. Another participant questioned the stressful thought, “She is badgering me,” regarding a One-for-One partner that started pushing after the exercise was done. Another participant worked the concept, “I am angry with the rich and powerful for exploiting and bullying the poor.” This came from watching a movie about fruit pickers in the 1960’s and ’70’s. And the fourth participant was Caitlin who questioned the thought, “She is being unreasonably angry,” regarding her niece who was angry at her for being 3 minutes late to pick her up at the ferry. May 11, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Bryan Wagner and I facilitated this session. There were five participants on the call, and there was time to work four concepts in total. Bryan gave a concise introduction of The Work and shared his experience using it on a family member he hadn’t talked to for 18 years. He then facilitated us to fill in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet, and he and I alternated facilitating volunteers. One participant worked the concept, “I don’t want my mother-in-law to interfere in our financial situation,” from line 2 of her Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. Another participant questioned the stressful thought, “My mom wants to buy a jacket with a leopard print on it.” This was regarding a shopping situation where she was embarrassed by her mother’s enthusiasm about such an inappropriate kind of clothing. Another participant worked the concept, “I want my daughter to be able to be a mom,” regarding a situation where her daughter has to get some surgery that could prevent her from being able to have children. And the fourth participant questioned the thought, “I want my daughter to never be in an isolated place alone.” regarding a five month road-trip her daughter is planning, where one friend has already dropped out, and the other is not confirmed. May 5, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Valli Waugh and I facilitated this session. There were five participants on the call, and there was time to work four concepts in total. Valli went over the four questions of The Work and shared his experience using it regarding his father, who punched him in the face when he was a teenager. He facilitated us filling in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. One participant worked the concept, “Dad is ridiculing me behind my by back,” from line 1 of her Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. This was about a situation where she heard him talking about her in the other room. Another participant questioned the thought, “Mutti blamed me for destroying her Christmas.” This was regarding a situation when she was 12-14 and her mother got angry at her for starting an argument with the other children. Another participant worked the concept, “My daughter is in a financial mess,” regarding her daughter who spends $5000/year on her car when she earns only $15,000/year. And the fourth participant questioned the thought, “I want him to appreciate my contribution,” regarding her husband’s impatience with her slowly growing new career as a facilitator of The Work. Anil shared his perspective as a physician and psychotherapist who has been using The Work since 2000. He facilitated us filling in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. One participant worked the concept, “I need him to care about the house,” from line 4 of her Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. This was about a situation with a grown son who has Asperger’s syndrome and who keeps lots of dirty dishes in his room. Another participant questioned the thought, “She compares my brother with my dad,” She considers her late father to have been mentally ill. Another participant worked the concept, “He forces me and Michael to watch the video again,” regarding a Skype conversation with her father where he puts his phone on the video to show her husband just after he got her to watch it. And the fourth participant questioned the thought, “I want her to listen to me,” regarding getting her 12-year-old daughter to get up for school in the morning. Another participant worked the concept, “I want Ruth to not worry so much,” regarding a situation at work regarding someone getting into a coworker’s business. Apr 15, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording I facilitated this session. There were two participants on the call, and there was time to work five concepts in total. I gave a thorough and somewhat unusual overview of what The Work is, and shared some of the ways it has helped me. I then facilitated us filling in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. One participant worked the concept, “He is so unfair to me,” from line 1 from her Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. This was about a situation at a new job where she was not trained properly. The same participant continued by working “I want Norris to not blame me for his mistake,” from Line 2 of her worksheet. And then “Norris shouldn’t threaten me” from Line 3 of her worksheet. The next participant worked, “He dismissed my request.” This was about her husband when she brought up the idea of going to visit her brother. Apr 9, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Tamami Fujiwara, a certified facilitator from Kirkland, Washington, co-facilitated with me. There were two participants on the call, and there was time to work five concepts in total. Tamami spoke movingly about her experience of doing The Work, and she explained that The Work is a way to come back home for her. She then led us through filling in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet after clearly identifying the situations to focus on. One participant worked the concept, “They have inadequate facilities,” from line 1 from her Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet regarding a retreat facility where she had a cold shower and ended up getting a cold. Another participant worked line 1 from her worksheet, “I am afraid of the students because they are asking too many questions,” regarding an experience she had teaching a class on mindfulness where students are invited to find their own answers, not focus on external definitions. Mar 28, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Margot Diskin, a certified facilitator from Ireland and France, co-facilitated with me. There were two participants on the call, and there was time for three participants do The Work. Margot shared her overall experience of doing The Work, and she gave a very elegant description of what The Work is. She then led us through a very meditative version of filling in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. One participant worked the concept, “She is the daughter that shines,” from line 1 from her Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet. This was regarding a situation where she was comparing herself to her sister in her parents’ eyes. Another participant worked line 1 from her worksheet, “I am overwhelmed with decision because they are not simple,” regarding an experience she had when she closed her eyes an noticed so many decisions to make. Feb 14, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Patrie Grace, a certified facilitator from Martha’s Vineyard, co-facilitated with me. She led us through a very meditative session of filling in a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet, with an emphasis on “being shown instead of figuring it out.” One participant questioned, “He shut down my hope,” regarding a situation where she asked an astrologer about finding a relationship, and he said that it didn’t look so good. Another participant worked the concept “He keeps pressuring me,” when her husband brought up that it is hard for him that she still doesn’t have a job. And another participant worked “He is demanding,” regarding a situation where her husband was trying to sleep and yelled at her to be quiet while she was washing the dishes and listening to YouTube. One participant questioned, “Women don’t want to be friends with me,” regarding a recurring situation triggered most recently by an interaction with her sister. Another participant worked the concept “He cut me off,” regarding a boss who didn’t appreciate her appreciation. I shared some of my experience doing The Work before we started, including some recent work on an administrative organization, and new work on my mother. We worked four main concepts on this call. One participant questioned, “He doesn’t communicate with me,” regarding a situation where she cooked dinner but he bought Thai food. Another on “Her house is a dangerous problem,” regarding her daughter’s gas leak from the furnace. Another on “I need her to be healthy,” regarding her daughter and the furnace. Jan 10, 2015 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Grace Bell, a certified facilitator from Seattle, co-facilitated with me. Grace shared some of her experience doing The Work. Here are some of the issues she has dealt with: she had a raging eating disorder and recovered over 20 years ago, was diagnosed with cancer, had friends and her father die from cancer very young, lost all her money (down to $11 to her name and threatened foreclosure), divorce, and horrible guilt from having an abortion. Four participants did The Work on this call (two with Grace, two with me). One participant questioned, “I want them to be financially independent,” with regards to her family leaning on her financially. Another on “He lies to me,” regarding an ex-husband who promised not to have more children. Another on “They shouldn’t judge me,” regarding sending out a newsletter that this participant has been stalling on for a long time. Dec 14, 2014 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording Margot Diskin, a certified facilitator from France and Ireland connected to us from Zimbabwe, where she is currently doing The Work with women who are HIV positive and who are dealing with stigma. Due to a scheduling mistake on my part, Margot did not facilitate until the end of the call (she will join us again at another time for more facilitation). Four participants did The Work on this call (three with me, one with Margot). One participant questioned “He says the The Work is a really good business,” from an insulting situation with her husband. Another on “Todd should have been more clear,” regarding my instructions for how to connect on the video teleconference. Another on “Cathy does not make a new plan with me,” regarding one participant’s sister who canceled trips with her twice but is now going to Mt. Kilimanjaro without her. And one last one on “He is ignorant,” about her husband thinking that success comes more from being in the right place at the right time than from hard work. Dec 4, 2014 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording There were just two participants on this call, so there was plenty of time to go deeply with each one. We wrote Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheets together, and then each participant did The Work with me for about 45 minutes. One worked the concept “She ends our friendship” form a situation 30 years ago when her best childhood friend didn’t want to be friends with her anymore, and they have been more or less separate ever since. The other participant worked a recurring stressful situation with a co-worker who is rude to him. She yells at him to hurry up when there is a long line of customers. Nov 15, 2014 – Two-Hour Taste of The Work Recording This was the first session of the Two-Hour Taste of The Works. We wrote Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheets, and three participants did The Work with me. One worked on “There’s so much to do” with regards to an upcoming Christmas party. Another worked a situation with a checker at the grocery store who insisted on giving him the receipt when he didn’t want it.
